Build 4067 ‘Dragontail Peak’

What’s New in Dragontail Peak 4067

This release brings a variety of quality of life improvements and resolves some outstanding bugs.

The Meshify device has also been significantly improved: The optimized mesh output has higher triangle quality and dramatically faster performance.

Here’s the full details:

Major Features

  • Meshify device produces higher triangle quality (no narrow slivers) near water shorelines, and is approximately 4-20x faster, particularly for moderate triangle counts from high-res sources.
  • Background previewer is memory-aware and will adaptively stop refining or initiate paging if memory usage is getting high.
  • Custom device versioning has significant improvements. Better workflow for saving to the library, feedback about modified contents, explicit synching with latest library contents, and control over if
    custom devices appear in toolbars/menus.
  • Added a ‘Tune-up settings’ command in the Program Settings that will look for any suboptimal or old settings and fixes them.

Minor Features

Framework

  • Extended new design system to modal message boxes and other messages.
  • Added multi-line toolbar support in workview.
  • Progressbar in OSbar/dock during build works.
  • Significant improvement to cancellation across most devices. This will make previews feel much snappier.
  • Added/updated some device action icons (Show inner nodes, swap inputs, package macro)
  • 3D meshes now uses standard middle grey when untextured
  • Undo history now more consistently colors undo state according built according to if the outputs of the world are built.
  • The overlay display in the workview now hides wires and color groups from their overlay-coded contents for better clarity.
  • Added interpolation between forward and backward wiring mode to make for smoother wire/device movement
  • Added build done chime 😉

Devices

  • Resolution overloads now apply to checkpoints and other routing devices for convenience (enabled by latest project version)
  • Shape device vertex shapes now disable default value when specific values are assigned
  • Shape device ‘add more like this’ takes type and parameter settings from currently selected
  • Added int grid support for Tiled Builds. Also added to File Input, Tiled File Input.
  • File input: EXR now can load any single channel input regardless of name. PNG now supports palettized images.
  • Colorizer can accept an intgrid
  • UV and VDM<->World mappers now accept multiple ports worth of data
  • Overlay device can show material types too

Mac-specific quality improvements

  • Pinch to zoom for trackpad in viewport
  • Title filename is now a draggable file proxy
  • Associated tmd files with WM, now can open by clicking on a file directly
  • Supports CMD-W for close window
  • Fixed fullscreen popup dialog issues

Bugfixes

  • Fixed device presets mostly not loading in Dragontail(!)
  • Fixed crash in VDM displacement device on mac
  • Fixed crash in File Input when attempting to load EXR files with a single channel
  • Fixed crash when Scene Output is provided terrain normalmap not sized the same as the material
  • Fixed double-commit when directly editing parameter value
  • Fixed read-only parameters being almost invisible
  • Fixed longstanding off-by-one normal display issue
  • Fixed longstanding broken quad-output tangentspace normal in Meshify
  • Fixed some example files not showing the scene in the previewer
  • When creating a generator for a spatial parameter, it will now match the spatial type of the host device
  • Device versioning widget now replaces/strips versions in both custom device and macros
  • Fixed bug where parameter with groupID set to a non-group gets stacked on top
  • Fixed fullscreen toggle not hiding both sidebars
